The Gamma Mu chapter of ATO holds fundraisers to benefit Just Food, and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals of Greater Kansas City. All funds raised raised from our spring philanthropy event, Mini Golf Masters, go to KU Dance Marathon (KUDM) and CMN to help families seen at KU Medical Center’s Pediatrics Department. Founded by alumni Alex Ross, KUDM has been instrumental in bringing the Gamma Mu chapter of Alpha Tau Omega to stand for greater things than themselves. We stand to make children smile. We stand to live for something other than ourselves. We stand for the kids.
KUDM's executive board has consisted of several ATO's over the years. This year we are proud to say that 2 of the 4 executive board positions are held by ATO's and 2 of the 10 steering board members are also ATO's. Several Tau's are involved committees for the organization as well. All of the work we do goes towards the future generations of other Jayhawks and children who come after us. We fight for them in hopes that one day we might not have to fight anymore. Whether that be at the signature event, bringing bands to play for the kids, or putting on volleyball tournaments our members go all out.
Our fall philanthropy event, Alpha Tau October, was held for the first time in 2019. Attendees enjoyed performances from local Lawrence artists at our chapter house, as well as delicious food and drinks. At the first annual Alpha Tau October, over $2500 was raised to benefit Just Food, a local food bank in Lawrence that provides access to healthy food to residents of Douglas County who are in need of food assistance. We are excited to continue this new signature event in the future and give back to our Lawrence community!
