ABOUT US

Gamma Mu's Mission

Our Creed

"To bind men together in brotherhood based upon eternal and immutable principles, with a bond as strong as right itself and as lasting as humanity; to know no North, no South, no East, no West, but to know Man as Man; to teach that true men the world over should stand together and contend for the supremacy of good over evil; to teach not politics, but morals; to foster not partisanship but the recognition of true merit wherever found; to have no narrower limits within which to work together for the elevation of man than the outlines of the world. These were the thoughts and hopes uppermost in the minds of the founders of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity."

Quick History

Challenging Stereotypes

The Gamma Mu chapter of Alpha Tau Omega was a part of the University of Kansas from 1901-2001. Since rechartering in 2012 we have based our ideals and principles on challenging the current stereotypes associated with Greek Life. Upon returning to KU we have worked hard to earn a reputable presence on campus and within our brotherhood.

Only 2 years after rechartering, ATΩ found a home in the unoccupied Sigma Delta Tau chapter house. And in the Fall of 2017, the men of ATΩ moved back into their original chapter house located at 1537 Tennessee Street.

Our chapter facilities are substance free. We remain the only chapter on campus to continuously receive IFC's Excellence in Risk Management; meaning zero violations or incidents. Keeping the house dry also helps us maintain our strict Anti-Hazing policy. We ensure that all members will be given a positive experience.

What does it mean?

Being an ATO

ATO was founded in 1865 as a way to bring diverse men together after the civil war. As quoted from our Green Books The Positive Experience,

"Alpha Tau Omega is a true fraternity. It is not a social club. While a social club may be fun, it lacks substance to give it deeper meaning. A true fraternity however, joins men in a brotherhood, not based on social life, but based on substance, leaving a positive, lasting imprint on those who dedicate themselves to it."

Alpha Tau Omega is "America's Leadership Development Fraternity". Through numerous leadership camps and classes offered by our National Fraternity our members become leaders on campus, in their communities, and in their work places.

The Gamma Mu chapter accepts people from all walks of life and grows stronger with each new idea and opinion. We strive and succeed in developing boys into men by upholding high standards and keeping an active brotherhood.
